Backlit (side) - Typical Equipment, Unusual Operation

Backlighting, at least as far as the train goes, would be unavoidable here and when I submitted this image, I knew this sort of rejection was a possibility from a technical standpoint. Nevertheless, given the unusual low-level boarding situation (requiring passengers to cross two tracks at this location) and the presence of the crew at track level, I was willing to give it a shot: http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...95&key=8805012

Is it a lost cause for RP purposes? Or is there any fine tuning that would make a difference from a screener's perspective?

Alternatively, would I be better off with something more like the attached that is a tighter composition featuring a crew member in good light (possibly with some adjustments)?

I know I may not encounter this situation again, but if there are any suggestions anyone has on approaching similar situations in a different manner, your expertise is always appreciated.
