Cropping, Compostion, Color...which is it?

First was for bad cropping, I was thinking I might get hit with it but I tried anyways. I liked how the crop looked and the train location didn't bother me.

I was assuming they thought the train was too close to the center vertically so I took some off the top and some off the sides to get proper dimensions. Now bad composition and bad color? Should I cut out the silos on the right side? I'm not really sure where to go from here. As for bad color, too much saturation? I don't recall doing anything different from the first to the second.

Have at it, thanks.

You took off the top ???

Mowed grass, or whatever the foreground is planted with, is just not that compelling a foreground ...

Not that blank blue sky would be much better. So I have no suggestions, sorry.

I think it needs a little more *pop*, i.e. saturation. Looks a bit too "blue" to my eyes, also.

The composition thing is probably caused by that very large and generally monotonous foreground. If you can, I'd remove some foreground and add some sky.

J, that was exactly my dilemma. On the one hand, I recall several times members of the forum suggesting to avoid a large, blank sky. On the other hand, there is the rather monotonous foreground. However, the foreground actually appealed to me in two ways. One, it emphasized the the small valley the road and railroad run through. Secondly, I like the mow lines and how they run parallel with the train, it just seemed pleasing to my eye I guess.

Mathieu, as for the color, I think you are correct. I will play around with it and see what I come up with.

As for the crop, if anyone thinks of a suggestion please let me know. I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what the screeners are looking for.

For the most part, I, too, like the vast foreground in this shot. I wouldn't change much in my mind. One thing though, it seems like the train is too high up in the frame for my tastes. This can be "fixed" by either cropping off some of the grass or by adding sky. But this beinng RP, you might still get the BC Monster.

Editted to add -- it looks like it's roughly 1200 pixels wide by 760 tall. I think it needs more height for my tastes, preferably with a little more sky.

Take SOME off the bottom and a smidge off the sides. Add a fair amount of sky ( not a large amount) and see what they say.

As for the bad color; the color is off ( it looks blue). Try and fix the WB and a little saturation to it.

Nice shot, too.

Cropping / Composition? I like it just fine the way it is. Maybe a small increase in color saturation. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing.

Thanks everyone for the help. I finally got around to re-editing and the results were a success!
