Black and White Plugins

With the help of these forums I first uploaded this picture about a year ago. At that time one comment was about it not having a lot of depth. I tried unsuccessfully to redo it with more contrast.
Shutterbug recently had an article on b&w plugins, so I just downloaded a trial version of Nik Silver Efex. Here is the resulting re-upload.

Nik is too pricey for my budget, but an interesting plugin.
Anyone else use conversion plugins?

PS Elements 3 does not come with a channel mixer, so I use one available for free from http://www.earthboundlight.com/

It also came with Curves which I use occasionally. But the channel mixer really made PSE3 a keeper for me.

Wow - nice website. Makes me want to get out and do some landscape photography.
It took a little while to find the channel mixer.
