Davies' last uploaded, twice, in 2010, and once in 2009 and once in 2008, so his average just grows and grows. Were he to upload, say, 10 shots this year (on top of a mere 47!), his average would come tumbling down.

J's is a very astute observation. The folks with the highest hit-counts are not the folks who are the most frequent uploaders. They are the folks who upload a few of their choicest shots and just let 'em ride. Photographers who regularly contribute, even if they don't post a ton of stuff, will temporarily lose something to their average every time they post a new one. That's how I typically tell if my latest shot has been accepted....if one quick look at my member page shows my average taking a hit, I know the latest one has passed muster.

For folks who have a lot of shots in the DB, perhaps a better gauge of the relative popularity of your stuff is to look at the stats page and sort it by average number of views. Then look to see how many photographers who have higher average hit-counts ALSO have an equivalent or greater number of shots in the DB. Now, you're comparing apples to apples. When I do that for my stuff, I actually feel pretty good about where I am. :-)

Kevin

I like that. In the "186" range of photos that I have, only one other guy has more average views then I.
Nice!

*Somehow, on my statistics page, my view count got inflated by about 22,000 views. I think that it includes the view counts of old photos of mine that I deleted, but that's just a guess. This post, however, was based on the photo stats that show up on the members page.

Several of you have mentioned deleting photos. I've got a couple in the database I wouldn't mind putting in the round file. How do you delete a photo from the database?

You need to e-mail the administrators. I did it many years ago when I wanted to change my name in the database, but I don't believe you need to go to this extreme anymore. I also flushed out many of my older less desirable pics in the process but lost the view counts upon re-uploading as a result.

bigbassloyd 01-09-2013 04:18 PM

Send an email to Chris or Chris and make sure the photo id's are within said email.

I've been wondering about something for a while, not important enough to actually email and ask. On my photostats page:

Why the counts are different, I have no idea. My current average shot, which reflects a recent decline in my average due to posting RP-un-cherished shots :)

My current average is 2730, and the shot with the closest number of views is:

In an oddly appropriate coincidence, my Jeep, which just rolled past 150,000 mostly train related miles, is featured in the shot.

Hi J,

I think the answer to that question is that the Photo Stats page is a separate report (for whatever reason) that is only run periodically.....like once a week, or something like that. I seem to recall Admin once making an announcement about it, when it changed from a real-time function to a periodic update. If the member pages are real-time, I am not sure why the Photo Stats page would represent a lot of additional compute overhead, but then, my background is Mechanical Engineering, not Computer Science. :)
