Help with Underexposure

Any thoughts on correcting this underexposure? I'm still learning all of the intricacies of Photoshop (Paint Shop Pro, actually), if you could offer some step-by-step suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

One way to avoid underexposure, after the fact, is to adjust levels or curves so that your whites are truely white and your blacks are definately black. Contrast works too, but it's much harder to get the results with the limits of that control.

Basically, brighten your whites and darken your blacks without gettting too much contrast. You may also be able to lighten the entire picture and then burn (darken) specific parts of the image.

If you have access to the histogram, you might notice that there is no information (or colors) captured at one or the other (or both) ends of the spectrum. Adjust accordingly.

Good luck!

Here's what the histogram looks like in your shot. If you move the slider on the right until it touches the data on the graph, your whites will be white, and the midtones will all expand, so they won't be underexposed.

Here it is after the slider is moved. Notice that the mid-tone slider has also moved to the left, it's now centered under the mid-tone data.

BTW, this is a really nice shot. Cutting out the signal head made a world of difference. You might consider re-uploading a slightly lightened version of the shot, but I like the dark sky of the original.
