Railpictures Plug

Earlier last week i was interviewed by a journalist from the Charleston Gazette in regard to my Amtrak cover photo. They asked the normal questions of how i got interested in the hobby, motivation, and so forth.

I vaguely informed them of Railpictures.net and was pleasantly surprised to see them include the URL to RP in the article which was in today's paper. Unfortunately, there is not an online version, but maybe it'll get some extra attention for the site.

Maybe you will get a free year of elite status

He gets my WHO CARES award for sure.

Joe the Photog 03-02-2011 10:22 PM

I was thinking he mightr get a couple of Get In On Appeal cards. If there was an on line link, then I could see a year of eliteness.

Chase55671 03-02-2011 10:51 PM

Not looking for anything special.. Just glad to see RP recognized.

Quit being an ass, Steven. You're just pissed off I didn't like one of your photos.

Just being myself... :-P

Joe the Photog 03-02-2011 11:36 PM

If I ever do another story on railfannning, I'm going to mention Railpictures and see what perks I get. I'm actually hoping to buy a Screener's Choice.

crazytiger 03-03-2011 01:33 AM

Actually, if anything ever comes of this, RP will just get more crap about allegiance to their friends.

troy12n 03-03-2011 01:47 AM

Maybe he can get his own award like Mitch wants

It wasn't that great, I look like I was totally shit faced, but aside from that, good write up by Ben Calwell.

Chase

Holloran Grade 03-03-2011 07:51 AM

People still read PARADE?

Wizzo 03-03-2011 12:49 PM

I may be missing the U.S. cultural reference, but in the UK, Parade was (and may still be) a............................. "gentlemens entertainment magazine"

It wasn't "read" much either

Hatchetman 03-03-2011 01:11 PM

Here, it's a flimsy insert in the Sunday paper, geared toward old ladies as far as I can tell. Stories about lost cats, happy Hollywood families, etc. Crossword puzzles for the mentally impaired.

troy12n 03-03-2011 05:23 PM

Parade is that thing which is usually in the sunday paper near the coupons that I really never understood why it exists.

To line the bottom of bird and pet rodent cages.

That and so people can read episodes of the Family Circle.:-D

Watain 03-03-2011 06:42 PM

If I ever get interviewed(yeah that's going to happen), I'll mention RP. But I don't think my local paper cares, about anything really, outside of bad news. :p

Either way, congrats Chase!

jnohallman 03-03-2011 07:00 PM

Then it's very simple, Wayne. You get a picture of a major derailment that is sure to be covered in your local paper, get it on RP, and send it to the paper for them to use in their coverage. Then, when they interview you, you can get in your RP plug and they get their bad news.

Jon

Watain 03-03-2011 07:44 PM

That's not a bad idea, I just hope I'm not around while the derailment is happening!

Then again, the photo would only get like 2 favorites, and like 4 views.

They always do cover the bad news, like when someone pulls out in front of a train and gets PWNED, or when some drunk lays in between the tracks, or when coal falls out of a car on a bridge and smashes someones windshield.

These statements are filled with 100% truth

Freericks 03-03-2011 07:50 PM

It's kind of hard to have a newspaper with headlines like --

"Family Adopts Puppy"

"Rainbow Visible for Ten Miles"

"No Accidents in Downtown in Two Weeks"

"Nothing Happened Today.

You forgot "Mets Win!"

But somehow businesses can sell signs that say things like "On This Site in 1893 Nothing Happened". What a world . . .

And BTW, Wayne, a derailment photo may not get you many favorites, but it almost guarantees a Tof24!

Hey Jim -
Congratulations in getting published in Parade (way back)!
(and the nice juicy check).

Nah - too much overlap with Joe Hinson's "Whoa! Forum's Choice Award".
:-D

troy12n 03-03-2011 11:46 PM

BTW, did you all know that Chase is Nitro WV's "Citizen of the Month"??

crazytiger 03-04-2011 12:37 AM

Can't find it. Any evidence?

Yes, his head is growing... Soon, they'll be able to play college football in that dome of his.. Any ideas for names?

Freericks 03-04-2011 01:36 AM

The Rail Pictures Dot Net Arena of course...

:-)

Sorry, Chase... he threw me a big fat fastball... I had no choice but to swing.

Holloran Grade 03-04-2011 01:51 AM

Yea!

Charles, can you come to my house and hang out for a while?

We need some happiness in the face of absolute adversity cheeriness around I think.

Not that anything bad is going on, but I think you could really improve our moral.:p

Freericks 03-04-2011 01:56 AM

Okay... happy to... what's for dinner.

Um, about your second sentence though "We some happiness in the face of absolute adversity cheeriness around I think." Are you able to move both arms freely? Now look in the mirror. Is one side of your face sagging a little?

Holloran Grade 03-04-2011 02:07 AM

I'm in love with Hammerhead Girl!

You try and type with flippers.:-D

I actually went to the newspaper to find a link and post it here, but could not find anything. The newspaper's website (Charleston Gazette) is pretty minimal, lots of useful stuff like obituaries, the news story of the day is Spirit Airlines starting service to their airport. Much better than the cardinal 3 days a week, one of which I think is in the middle of the night.

http://www.wvgazette.com/

Edit: I didnt know they had two newspapers (wow!), found the article:
http://www.dailymail.com/News/Putnam...=2&build=cache
It's on page 2.

Council members also honored 15-year old Nitro resident Chase Gunnoe for his contribution to Amtrak System's magazine "Timetable."

The cover of the May-November 2010 issue features a picture of the Amtrak Cardinal crossing the New River at Hawks Nest.

Gunnoe is the first West Virginian to have a photo appear in the publication. He was named Nitro's Citizen of the Month for March.

If you say so, I'm not the one whose head got big enough to think he was slick enough to sneak a fake pan onto the DB. ;)

Didn't know it was published online. That paper is really hard to read online.

I would like to live there, seems fairly tame.

Here its always:

''Man shot over argument about how to grow Marijuana''

''Hawkins county (TN) deputies wrangle monkeys at meth lab raid''

''Kingsport, (TN) drunk driving suspect allegedly bites hospital nurse.''

''No injuries reported in Johnson City, (TN) drive-by shooting''

Kingsport police seize drugs from man slumped over steering wheel.

And the best for last, my next door neighbor...

''Hiltons (VA) woman guilty of first-degree murder''

trainboysd40 03-04-2011 07:34 AM

Oh my GOD, Chase...no wonder your head's so big. Your town must be as boring as its name is exciting.

khalucha 03-05-2011 03:42 AM

Wayne, come to my next of the woods. Shootings happen all the time, drugs are usually in the thousands of dollars worth, and they hate most of the law enforcement agencies, especially the Sheriff.

example here: http://www.azcentral.com/community/n...club-abrk.html

Freericks 03-05-2011 03:49 AM

Wow Kevin... I'll drive right over.
