Photo Upload Question

Hi all,

Haven't posted here in a while, as school seems to take up more and more "free" time. Anyway, i went to submit a few photos tonight, and noticed that at some point my upload limit has...

I, too, have been wondering when the next one would be published. I've always wondered how those articles come to be. Does a screener select a specific photo and then contact the photog to see if...

I share the same sentiment as most others here in this thread, even though i'm only 19. While i don't have any serious regrets, i do wish that i took up serious photography earlier, not just "train...

Thanks everyone for your help. I kind of suspected this might happen (the fact that there is no real easy "quick fix", not the Chase-John Ireland thing). I think i might take up Janusz' suggestion,...

Editing from a Laptop

Being away at school means that I now am forced to edit my photos on my laptop, which I didn't think would be a big deal. After a few photos were rejected, I noticed a common theme: bad color. The...

About 5-6 years ago is when i started to get serious about rail photography. Perhaps this was partly due to my dad giving me a second-hand Minolta XGM. It was a camera from his job that,...

Great topic, Chase!

Last year I really lucked out in terms of weather and trains on the Thanksgiving weekend. Spent a day at Bayview Junction last year and had one of the best railfanning days...

Help with a recent reject, please

I was quite puzzled with the poor image quality rejection on this photo. It was taken with a Canon 50D and my 24-105L lens. I'm on my laptop now, so i can't really tell how sharp a photo may or may...

I, too, actually had a pretty good one recently. The family and i went down to train Festival 2009, and at the border on the way down, the guard seemed okay with the idea - maybe he was a railfan, i...

CP Bound Brook

My family and i are going to NYC for a week this summer, and we have set aside one day for hobby stores/foaming. We intend to go to the Railroad Shop in Piscataway, so foaming near there seems like a...

Canon 24-105 lens issue

Last week, I purchased a canon 24-105 lens to replace my sigma 17-70. At the camera store, i fired a few test shots, looked at the results and was satisfied (i bought the last one in stock). This...

Thanks, all, for your responses. I was kind of leaning towards getting one anyway, but wasn't sure how effective it would be for railroad photography.

Canon 100-400 F/4-5.6L IS

Another lens thread here.

I currently have a 70-200 F/4L (which i love) but there are a few locations that i frequent where i could use a bit more zoom (300 mm would do). I have read several...

Color and Exposure

I had this one originally rejected for underexposed. When i took the photo, it was a bit overexposed, so maybe i just went a bit too far in the other direction?...

Good Scanners?

Anyone know a good scanner for scanning negatives or slides that is relatively inexpensive (i.e. around or under $300)? I have an Epson Perfection 1660 Photo, and it seemed adequate, but recently is...

Thank you all for your responses, they've been very helpful. I think I'll go with the 40D and spend the extra money on some new glass (I think a canon 24-105 F4 L would work well with the 40D),...

Worth it?

For some time now, i have been trying to decide between a Canon 40D and 50D. I guess that i am of the mentality that the 50D is newer, and therefore, better. But a local camera store has a good deal...

Recent rejects

I finally was able to get some trackside time to enjoy the fall colours, specifically the trains passing by these colours. I managed to get one on RP already, but seem to be having some difficulty...

I only hope this doesn't turn into another Frisco 1522 situation. Hopefully, this most recent mishap hasn't damaged the driver bearings (which, if i recall correctly, is what permanently parked 1522).

Nicely done, Michael, i never even thought to try a wide angle shot. I just stuck with my 70-200. In retrospect, i think a wide shot like yours is definately the way to go. Oh well, live and learn, i...

I've finally had some good lighting recently, but that seems to have only brought new rejection reasons.

This first one i found most surprising. It was originally rejected for unsharp, so i went...

What do you think?

I didn't think this one had a serious shot at getting in, because i thought it would get knocked for high sun. I was a bit surprised when the reason was listed as PEQ. I'm not questioning this, just...
