Thanks Mike. Not sure if this comment is directed at me in particular but I'm taking it on-board. Sorry if I've come across somewhat sour and stubborn. I've learnt a lot from being in this community....

Yes John, I have learnt a lot but have got some way to go yet. And it's not just about a photo being better but the way RP likes it. That may require a change in approach or in personal preferences....

Thanks Doug. Words of wisdom indeed. This thread, and others, has helped me recognize the key. I guess one can be almost blind to what others can easily see in photos by their own preferences or...

It does to me too. What is interesting is that who you get as a screener might be the most important factor, something I have suspected for a long time in my experience. The photo could have been...

I meant the filtered light was the best I could hope for at that time of year for a middle of day shot. The train is well lit from the side. My point was entirely about the lighting that was...

Are you still unable to upload photos? I suggest you consider Elite membership which normally has unlimited upload slots. But be careful even with that; I had unlimited slots reduced to 5 per day...

If it was rejected for composition I'd understand but it wasn't either time. And grab iron shadow on nose isn't exactly dull cloudy day lighting - in fact the lighting could hardly be better for the...

This photo would have a favorite from me. I just suspect the screener doesn't like the train. As it's been said before... a photo could be rejected for almost anything that is in anyway subjective...

I have had a number of "cloudy day common power" rejections that I think are questionable such as one yesterday which was originally rejected in December for being over exposed. As I've said before...

Thanks Kevin. Not sure if I could have got any wider as photo taken from far side of open car vestibule of parked passenger train. Going wider may not have helped much because of that shadow. Yes we...

Yes that's why I considered it borderline for RP but doubt it would make much difference elsewhere. Biggest problem is that its probably not interesting enough for a predominately American RP...

So it might be acceptable if its say a drone shot of even common power or location? As I said I've had this rejection for photos that are not even near backlit. As a rule of thumb if the thumbnail...

How much light on the nose is enough light?

OK I knew this might be borderline but it's the best shot I've ever managed to get of this locomotive type which is very rarely seen. I have had rejections with same reason when there is grab iron...

And right now features as top shot in views last 24 hours. You can probably guess what I will say next... With a lot of shots, who cares if it's cloudy?

Yes well put. I didn't mean viewing statistics in just that way. Rather, as I said, my experience of response to photos posted here and elsewhere might suggest it's not so predictable how popular a...

You are so right Kevin. It's a pity it took me so long to learn this and that it took me 3 years to get acceptance into this forum. My big mistake soon after getting rejections as a new member was...

Thanks guys for your comments. Very true what you say John especially; it seems RP is all the better for having more quality foreign railroad photos being submitted and accepted. It's easy enough for...

Yes you are right. And I don't expect much to change unless the site owners want more international focus and following. I doubt that. Yes most viewers want to see trains that they grew up with -...

Yes, it can sometimes seem that getting acceptance is harder than it really is, a point I was trying to make subtly. Each screener will have preferences and bias which I suspect particularly applies...

Thanks Rene. Sad that you've given up submitting photos. Also that everyone else in this country has too as far as I can tell. It seems that it's just to difficult to get acceptance for most of them....

Thanks John.

Yes, but if we need "visual drama" and not too wide then I expect that we'll keep seeing lots of wedge shots on RP. Not everyone has S curves or a canyon railroad just down the road....
