I have come to learn a lot of RP is trial and error. Sometimes things make it through, sometimes they don't. Depends on the screener, time of day, orientation of the planets among other things :)

Sometimes you can't win. Thought these pan shots were quite good.

One had an ever so small amount of brush covering the front plow. Guess that was enough to get slapped with obstruction....

So it was rejected once. I lightened it and it was rejected again.

The shot was challenging. Sun had gone below the horizon. I love the atmosphere and the break in the clouds.

Having photos with the POV of the leading engine...

Having photos with the POV of the leading engine taken from a trailing coach are hard to get accepted.

I've submitted many from the NYMR when I was shooting from a rear coach at the lead engine...

Clouds aren't a bad thing, and during the fall, in my opinion, a sunny sky can in fact be detrimental to the foliage and colors. Like the others said, show more of the scene and you should be GTG.

Obviously cell phones still haven't met the quality of DSLRs, but after toying around with my wife's new Iphone 6 I am impressed. Thinking more along the lines of last ditch, I don't have my DSLR...
