As others have noted, the 16-35mm f/2.8L II is not worth the extra cost vs. the 17-40mm f/4L. Both of them have slightly soft corners on full frame.

Here is a shot with a 16-35L II on full frame...

I found the 5DII to me a nice upgrade over the 5D. The extra resolution is nice, the noise at higher ISO is improved.
