Judging from some of the recent shots accepted from the UK it appears that grain is almost a pre-requisite. You do need to have a steam locomotive in the shot though!

I'd say the shadow tool has been put to good use...

I'd say the shadow tool has been put to good use to compensate for the backlighting (I actually like backlit shots BTW). Not a criticism, it's a great image.

The way I see it, the image is so obviously 'fudged' that an explanation is not required. Perhaps the Photographer/Photoshop operator thought so too?

Don't worry Graham, I get Cloudy/Common rejects all the time. Unfortunately, as all my shots are taken over 20 years ago, they are invariably impossible to re-shoot. The joys of living in the UK!!
