Ham radios are pretty inexpensive and are made for the band right near railroad frequencies. Although you'll probably never have a problem with it, like EB said, it's illegal...

It looks like your scanner isn't handling color transitions very well, as most of the grain is gathered around and the same color as other objects. Try to scan the same slide on a different scanner....

Fuji makes some really nice slide film. If there's no grain in your slide but there is in your scan, chances are the problem is occuring somewhere in the conversion from slide to the digital...
