Steam all the way! Although limited in availability, I prefer it and travel to witness it before its totally gone. "Deezuls" are fine to shoot as well, I just prefer the older equipment.

We are semi used to LHF running down here in ex-Southern territory. Nothing wrong with it, we kind of like it.......even seen steam run tender first on a tourist line down south.

Id buy, or try to buy, N&W J Class 611 and Southern 4501. Restore both 100%, buy some of the old N&W/Southern coaches and stick them behind it to relive the glory days of the Excursion Program....

They might be uncomfortable compared to modern diesels but it could always be worse (or better to me).......you could be sitting behind a boiler all day.......enjoy technology! :)

Its a wonderful excursion, I wish you could have seen it back when NKP 765 pulled it........the Amtrak garbage that pulls it now is ok though, the scenery speaks for itself.

Ive seen it move around the yard once, those early E's are IMO the most beautiful of the old engines. And did I mention that it is a BEAST. You could show movies on the side of that thing.

Its actually operational. NCDOT owns it I believe. It dosent come out of the roundhouse often but it does run. Its displayed inside the NCTM roundhouse. Beautiful locomotive and a BEAST!
