As far as I know there's not really any way to tell just by looking since that aspect of a locomotive is internal. Like David said, looking at the builder's plate will give the model. Also there are several locomotive rosters on the internet where you can get info all locomotives owned by a railroad.

As far as I know, those are the only locomotives with AC traction that GE has produced.

On an interesting note, modern DC locomotives (EMD since 1972, GE since ???) use an AC alternator instead of a DC generator, but still have DC traction.
