identifying trains and engines and such takes years of studying or just learning by experience, i have been identifying locos since i was 8, the 1st engine i was ever able to identify everytime i saw it was a SP SD40T-2, and since then it was history....lol , but there are ways to speed up the process, i would recomend for modern identifications is to buy the official annual rosters, it has EVERY RR in the US and even Canada and Mexico. I have been buying every year since 1994, there are other ways, but i would recomend this for a starter. you will learn all the stuff in time. here is the link http://www.transalert.com/cgi-bin/de...BKLROST&cat=18

hope that helps
