All very good recommendations to start out with. As you enjoy the art of photography and advance, you'll want to start saving up for canon "L" lenses. One key point with a Canon digital camera is that you'll want to stick with Canon glass. There have been some documented cases of communication issues with some Sigma and off-brand lenses. I ended up giving away a Sigma lens because it always seemed to have issues with improper focus from time to time when used with the 10D. Not so with any of my Canon's.
