The point of the picture was to show how much older motive power UP laid up during the recession. My estimate, there are more than 200 locomotives here. A high angle from the side was the only way to show how far the line stretched. I can't think of another way to make the shot short of renting an aircraft. It does look like a bad angle. The composition is a bit awkward. It's a bit unlevel as well.
