I dont bother shooting in the rain, period. The few times I have actually shot in the snow, it was cold enough that I could just brush the snow off, I also shot with the lens hood on so blowing snow would not actually contact the front lens element. This is tougher with ultra wide angle lenses because the hoods really do not provide much cover. I have used the plastic grocery bag gimmick too, but really would not trust this in real rain. I just stay inside when its raining, best bet to do the same.
