Default Composistion Help

The only nice looking crop I've been able to muster with these shots is pretty square, and I know that's a no-no around here.

Any suggestions?

Here are two versions of my attempt. In general, you have a lot of distracting stuff in the frame. Unable to avoid the two poles, I chose to use them as framing devices. You may have thought you were doing so also, but in my opinion you retained much too much detail outside of them to make it work.

Both crops are between 3:2 and 4:3 in ratio.

Actually, on your red unit leader, that is about what I am doing with the yellow leader. That big shadow at the bottom isn't helping you. Not sure what else to say about that shot.

EDIT: oops, didn't realize Jim had done about the same; I though he was simply quoting/repeating the shots.

Also, nice catch of the airplane in the distance!

Thanks for the help guys - I hate those damn poles/posts in there. Too much stuff happening there.

It's cool that I caught that Southwest plane landing with the DGNO power - that's a Dallas scene if there ever was one.

Are either worth submitting in your opinion? I'm thinking that they just don't work, which is too bad.

Depends on what you aspire to, I suppose. Neither is at your usual level of quality.

Might try a vertical sometime; even then, looks tricky. Maybe you can step to the left a bit, get rid of that short pole in the lower right.

Yeah... I think I'll let them slide... I'm trying to go for the quality over quantity, and neither of them are that spectacular.

Thanks for the input guys, I certainly appreciate it.
