GREAT image, glad you resurrected it for those who came too late to see it the first time around.

Talking

Obviously it was at a disadvantage because it was around before Mitch started encouraging us to leave comments.

Looking back, I think that my own first photo on RP is a dud.

BTW - Since we are plugging a few of our own -this is one of my best pans and it garnered only a single comment. This is perhaps my own doing as it was among the first few images I uploaded at RP and like many newbies, I dumped quite a few all at once and late in the evening....

A perfect pan /pace to me usually entails alot of blur, alot of color and it must be razor sharp. Typically, I like to catch the entire engine. Rods down and a nice plume on a steam engine is a bonus.

Well, thank you. They are cool aren't they? Aren't they nicknamed "Hunchbacks" or something like that? I still see them from time to time around here, albeit rebuilt into an upgraded unit like this GP39.

I have a few shots of those from the Amgen location in Seattle. Didn't know they had been upgraded, but of course makes sense given their age. Around here (DC), CSX has a number of them that have been converted to slugs and paired with GP40-2s and the like. So I still get to see the shape from time to time. Haven't gotten a shot of one yet that is RP worthy.

Funny looking back through my first photos here. God can I delete a lot of them??? Some bad stuff, but also some gems. Here's one I think would do incredible if I posted it now, but in almost two years since being posted it's only had 514 views and no comments.

Hey Mitch, your EBT pan shot was one of my 'favorite photos by other contributors' shots on my RP profile for awhile. I rectified the lack of a comment just a minute ago.

Here are a few of my favorites by others I think have gone relatively unnoticed lately. All convey great attention to composition and lighting:

That's a fair trade, thank you John!
It'd have taken me months and months to find it under favorite photos : )

I like your last CSX image - missed it, and I thought I saw everything on RP in 2007. Very nicely cropped and pleasing to the eyes. There's something quaint about a nice short train, even more so with a class one at the head. I guess they call that a local.

What's so great about it?
It's a stop sign in the center of the picture blocking the cab of an engine. Not a whole lot to look at.

I guess tastes differ; I would call both of these nice, but to me neither one is a gem. One is a standard wedgie with a bit of ocean, the other is a nice catch of the all-Maersk train but is otherwise ordinary. No offense intended.

Wonka/WetRails:
Thanks! The amazing thing about the dome sunrise shot is that you're looking at the only other people in the dome for the sunrise.
