Default Post your first and latest shots!

Might be kind of fun to see how far some of us have come since posting our first photo here. Now I have a different camera than I started out with so that really helped the quality overall. I've been here less than a year, but looking through the database a couple years ago there are many that would most likely not be accepted today!

I can tell a huge improvement in my photography, but it is just coming with age and experience. Not sure if Railpictures did it I shoot many other things also.

Strangely, my first shot is my second most popular, and my latest is second least popular... and they're both shots of the same signal. They were also taken two days short of two years apart... too strange.

Believe or not, I can take pictures of trains when the sun's up and there aren't any crossbucks around.

I have definitely taken a more artistic approach to my railroad photography since I started over 3 years ago. My post-processing skills have greatly improved also.

For my photography I would say the same, thus that I am less than one year with RailPictures now. My pictures were taken with three different digital cameras: I startet "digital" with a Kodak Easyshare DX3700 (3 mio. pix) in 2001 (a very simple fixed focus snapshot camera with very limited possibilities) switching to a Sony Cybershot F-717 (5 mio pix) in 2003 to end up (for the moment) with the Sony Cybershot R-1 (10 mio. pix).

First picture as of April 21, 2007:

PhotoID: 184779
Photograph © Kilroy1313

Until my most recent of December 21:
Image © Kilroy1313
PhotoID: 216289
Photograph © Kilroy1313

There is an astonishing resemblance of these two shots: they utilize nearly the same viewangle. And they really don't represent what I learned most with RP = take beautiful landscapes with a train imbedded in the picture as if you look at a model train.

Yep, the strange thing though is they generally end up with trains stopped on the Sandusky line daily, it sees though every single time they run something around the stopped train either it is too far back to be able to get a picture like this, or it goes overcast...

It took me a rather long while to get my first accepted, partially because of a crappy scanner, then an injury that prevented me from going railfanning for about 4 months. It was also due to the fact that I was pretty determined to get an artistically good shot in, and not just a wedgie.

First shot accepted with my Fuji Finepix 5100. I like it compositionally, but it's pretty crappy quality since it was cropped from a horizontal shot.

My second to last shot though, I like rather a lot from an artistic point of view.
