Yup, so who wants one? I heard they were $30,000. Of course, I'd buy an F40C over a new car anyday!

$30,000 seems rather cheap for a locomotive. However, that be the case think I might pull out miy cheque book!

For those of you who missed out on the METRA units, ATK now has put six GE Dash 8-40 BPHs up for sale. Prices aren't listed but you can contact Amtrak Material Disposal in Philadelphia for the particulars.

Don't delay, call today. At these low low prices, they won't last long.

Numbers aren't mentioned in the advertisement which states they're from 1993, but here's the oldest one:

Found a new home:

Leased passenger locomotives to supplement KCSR fleet

In March, 12 F40C locomotives will be delivered to several Kansas City Southern Railway locations as part of a nine-month lease from Helm.

Helm is converting the passenger locomotives to be used as center units in freight trains with a three-unit consist.

The 12 F40C units will aid KCSR and Tex Mex in handling additional volumes until 30 new SD70ACe locomotives are delivered in fourth quarter 2005.

(From KCS Release)
