Default Removed without notice

After a comment was made about one of my pictures being on the WTF list, I noticed the picture has been removed.

The photo was not doctored or manipulated in any way that violates the rules of RP.

I think that if a photo is removed after being accepted, the courtesy of an email is appropriate to let someone know why it was rejected after the fact.

If there's an issue with it and the screeners made an error, I am not mad, people make mistakes, I just think that there should be an email sent saying we removed your photo for X reason.

I tried for bringing the train up very close and including the signals on both sides. Guess it didn't work, I have other shots, I just wish they could have told me and I didn't have to find out by noticing my number went down to 54.

I agree an email should have been sent to you.

To me the problem is the chopped off pilot, no need for that at all. It is also too tight on the other three sides, but acceptance of the cut-off pilot on a shot that is otherwise ok is somewhat surprising, it is really noticeable.

Maybe you should've known better than to submit in the first place?

I leveled it a bit and ran out of room at the bottom. I can def fix that and resubmit. I thought there an issue with the brightness of the left headlight.

It's sad they are axing those CPL's, I wanted to get them before they are gone. The ones in Jessup are going too.

I agree completely. I know these guys are busy but they should show some courtesy stating the photo was removed, not that hard.

It was probably removed due to the fact the bottom of the lead is pretty much cut off. Have anything that's a tad wider? It's a nice shot, just needs some room all around, especially on the bottom.

Good luck

Ben

Yeah I have some of it coming up to the CPL's. I'm gonna let it go and chalk it up to human error.

I was so busy looking at the CPL's I didn't even catch the pilot being cut off.

I didn't notice the ditch light, maybe the screener and others did. For my tastes the engine is too in-your-face and having it be a smaller part of the frame, by adding room left/bottom/top, would help reduce the impact of the ditch light.

Was this the photo Nikos was complaining about? At any rate, really how does that get accepted with the cut off plow?

Yes, it was the photo Nikos was complaining about.
What about the oldie BN shot with the border? When is its time to go? The screeners should send Jeremy an email telling him to fix it.

I don't think that the screeners should just remove shots if they were already accepted, but this shot should never have been accepted in the first place. By the way, it shouldn't be removed, but the screener should contact the photographer telling him to fix it.

Hi Greg,

After reading through this thread, I'm just a tad confused. I get the part that the RP Admins removed an accepted photo of yours, but I'm still trying to figure out the first part of your statement.

Where did this "comment" appear and what the heck is the "WTF" list? I am familiar with the acronym....just not the way you used it.

Thanks!

It appeared in another RP forum thread recently, don't recall exactly where. Someone complained about a shot, and then someone else said, hey, what about Greg's shot? And then, presumably, an admin saw the thread and deleted the shot.

It's been removed so it doesn't show up except for the place holder.

Why would I get banned? I didn't submit a doctored pic and I tried to question the removal in a civilized way.

I don't think you'd be banned, Greg. I wouldn't worry about that. Anthony was banned for resubmitting unedited photos, so that's why he made the reference.

Look at the photo again. This is why the typical railfan/picture taker shouldn't be a screener. The photo is foggy. The slide may be the issue, but the image can be cleaned up in Photoshop. In this day and age, a slide scan shouldn't be accepted that looks like that, unless it's 50 to 100 years old.

He didn't crop out the slide frame, see the thumbnail on post #11.

You missed the point, see above.

I agree with you about the clean up. I recently started a thread here on that very topic, but I do understand that some participants on RP with the older shots may not have the technical capabilities or talent to do that cleanup. Some feel that the standards should be relaxed for what I will loosely call the old folks, I don't really agree but that is the accommodation right now and it does allow everyone to see some older stuff which is otherwise very nice.

I see what you are referring to, but the border doesn't really bother me on slide scans.

Tough call. The border is intentional, of course, the slide frame is an oversight or lazy. The slide frame serves as a border but is sloppy and unpleasing, it does not flatter the shot. I can't see ever looking at an image and saying to myself that it would look better with a slide-frame style border around it. A border is an attempt to improve the shot.

There is a separate question, besides whether a shot should have a border, namely, should RP shots be allowed to have borders (beyond the borders they have in being presented on an RP-formatted page). I don't have much of an opinion on that right now, maybe later.

But slide frames? NOOOOOOO

Although of course, back in the day and even today, any slide show will of course show the image in exactly that way. But for digitally processed venues like RP, I say no, I say that is exactly something that digital allows us to clean up in post processing. Just like massive grain and/or imperfections in a sky in a scanned slide.

Hey, Hey now, 1 was unedited, the others were slightly edited...jeez... lesson learned...
Therefore, I will serve my time and not drop the soap in the meantime. Wouldn't want to drop the soap in front of the RP Bubba
