Cherry Blosoms in Washington DC
Forecast blooms are next week - April 11th through the 14th!
Same weekend as a certain photography conference in Illinois (see separate thread), but perhaps they'll still be in bloom and worth of a visit the following week.
Looking forward to pics should anyone be in the area - Matt? Janusz? Chase? Jon? (Matt's shot was featured in Trains Gallery last month, if I recall correctly).
/Mitch

I've never shot the blossoms! For that matter, I have spent very little time within the District. Might have some free time the 11-12th, will have to see. No fun trying to get down to the blossoms area, it is packed with tourists, not much parking, and a long walk from the nearest metro station.

I'm considering it. Always wanted to shoot up there.

I think the Arlington Cemetery station to the Tidal Basin is not a terrible walk and if sunny and blossomy out, quite nice. Just go over the Memorial Bridge.

Good point, Charles. You made me look at the map. As it turns out, the Arlington Cemetery station is not a bad choice, but Smithsonian is a bit closer. I had forgotten about that station.

What about L'Enfant station then walk across the Francis Case Bridge? That will get you to Kevin Jones's photo location.

I think Smithsonian is a wee bit closer, but it doesn't matter that much. And if one uses L'Enfant, one has the opportunity to catch one more train, if something is coming by wnen one is exiting/entering metro.

I lived there for 14 years, having just recently moved away. If you don't want to drive to the cherry blossoms, walk from Smithsonian Metro. But I do have to say for all the hype, if Metro is a total PITA, just drive and park somewhere within the Ohio Drive complex. It is very easy access from I-395 coming north from Virginia. Showing my roots, I have no clue how to access this area if you were coming from Maryland.
But like any of us from the area, no matter how long you've lived there, you inadvertently wind up in the other state, scream some obscenities, then turn around on some exit and figure out how to get back to where you wanted to be in the first place.

DC isn't the only place with cherry blossoms.
I'm coordinating a night photo with City of Manassas that'll include cherry blossoms and NS.

Nahh, no insult there... Mike and I go back a ways. Like slideshows at Hyndman Cabeese with fine bourbon. Right Mike?
Anyways, don't need to coordinate with NS if I'm not on their property, I wouldn't want to steal the wind from Casey's sails anyways. Doesn't matter, the train they usually run for the spot I wanted got annulled anyways. (Yes, that is the downside of not working with the railroad.)
Next year, Manassas is all about getting this photo when the trees are in bloom again.
