That is what makes it fun.

ok, but i was not accusing our dear "harry potter" of anything, i was pointing out that rp.net is for great quality pictures of trains...and that is not supposed to be taken to be a sign i hate all pictures that have everything but a train in it. i love art.

i may have reacted non-accordingly to that particular photo because i saw somebody had achieved something i had not despite particular "cloudy" ,if you may excuse the pun, circumstances.

let's look on the other side of this, what if the majority of the "railfans" were female, and the screeners too. how would you feel, as a "rare" male railfan, to see a couple guys 3/4th's naked in their preferred brand of thong underwear sitting in a canoe, or our http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=257334 "Bob" posing for a shot to squeeze past the screeners and get some photos in for the most hits.

i'll open up a forum for people to link their hated RAILPICTURES.NET photos and comment about their reasons...

No, that is what ObsCar is for.

* * * *

Sure the train is small, sure its cloudy, but the screeners let it in.

That is the funny part.

I lurk just to make sure I can stay one move ahead of Charles.

And.......

I am afraid I will get into some six alarm pissing match with Howard.

He looks like someone who's button "I" would enjoy pushing.

Ha!

I haven't gotten into a pissing match with Howard, Garland, or any of the crew yet.. I primarily lurk, too. I have a hard time keeping up with all of the messages.. The most active board I've ever seen!

This is a very valid point which doesn't even need the role-reversal pre-amble.

If the primary subject (and let's face it the primary subject is the people in the canoe, not the train) were male, would there be so many here extolling the virtues of how well thought out and composed the shot was? I don't think so.

I should note that in no way am I saying the shot is bad. It's just that for me, it should not be on this site and its (and others) inclusion devalues RP.net as a serious rail photo website.

As an aside, whilst many joke about the 'paper in the window' shot, it's primary subject (and only subject) is at least rail relevant.

This week was good. Dan the Rat meets Howard the tormentor and Garland his new best friend. (Or so it would appear if we didn't posses the wonderful power of sarcasm!)
I can't believe he called them a bunch of RP lovers. And then got banned. That was fantastic.

It only took a day or two for me - probably because I am so well known, and am an all around bitchin dude.

In the little description where you state why you want to join the group I told them that I am 45 years old and weigh 415 lbs. and that I live at home with my Mother.

I also said that she drives me all around town to look at the choo choos and that I foam at the mouth incessantly every time I see a train and that I would rather go to Winter Rail then to Las Vegas.

Next I said that I like trains better than girls, because girls can give you diseases and it is yucky when they try and kiss you.

Apparently they don't read those statements very closely.

Or they did.

I think you correctly described a significant percentage of the railfan community.

How about the dog's head on that body?

Like an Anubis.

My favorite ObsCar quote of today:

"Daniel, I see your mothership was spotted over Utah.

It has been fun, but time for you to run along now, and beam up.

You have brought even more meaning to the term WARP drive WARP!" -- Dane Carlisle

I think Troy nailed it perfectly. You described a large percentage of the railfan community, hence your acceptance to the group.

Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if Jim's membership is not accepted for a few days, as they might have accepted yours sooner, based on the fact that they could relate to you.

Did you notice that the conductor/engineer/guy on train was looking at the girl? That is what makes the shot an actual interesting photograph, as opposed to some kind of weird mechanosoftcore for weirdos. Photography is related to moments, and the guy checking out the girl and the girl looking back is what makes the picture. Yea, she is good looking, but if neither were looking at each other, than it would not be half the photo it is. And I bet it would not have been accepted.

The Canoe Photo would have been stronger if it were horizontal, so as to include the entire foreground women's back, because the crop is awkward, and lose some of the sky, which does not add to the photo in any particular fashion, personally. I think in a non railpictures world, it probably would have been, if there was less concern of shrinking the train even futher.

It is a shame that some railfans have such a narrow view of what constitutes a good train picture that they have to poo-poo anything that falls out of that range. Live and let live, and don't click if you don't like.
