Yes, it's cloudy.... but it's nowhere near standard power!

I took this picture 3 months ago. Rejected for cloudy lighting...
First off, cloudy weather is the norm in spring in the Willamette River Valley.
Secondly.... that's nothing like standard power, it's an ex-SP SD9 in original paint...

Perhaps it could use some sharpening, but...
What do you think?

Well you'd better complain to Mother Nature about that then.

Brutal honesty. I think the photographer missed the shot. I believe this because I had to do a dark shift to 21 or 22 in photoshop to make the darks right. You were hotter than a two dollar pistol (RIP Possum).

Had you have been a stop (or more) lower, it might have it been usable.

Did you take additional shots and vary the exposure on them? One of those might be usable if so.

Nikon L340. Nikon states a range of ISO 80-1600 with a smorgasbord of modes and exposure compensation of -2.0 to +2.0 EV in steps of 1/3 EV. It even does HD video. Sounds like the camera doesn't make all the decisions unless you allow it to.

Perhaps it's rare power, but it's not power that can't be shot pretty often I suspect with better control of the camera. I also suspect you should have used the even lighting to get more of a broadside of the unit. Use the chance to show something that might not get shot so much instead of a typical 3/4 wedgie. I suspect typical 3/4 wedgies with cloudy weather don't get in so much. You can't control the weather, as you noted, but you can make better decisions when shooting in that type of weather.

If it can be shot every day it's common power. Yes, it's damn rare except for that one place but that one place exists and it runs there every day. Been to many a place in my life that I shot something I'd only see that one time but I got dreary weather. Still fun to go and see it, but won't get on this site.

Exactly my point - which is why every cloudy in comment complaint that goes on to say, but it's a rare engine, is pointless.

The, "this is a brand new unit and it was wrecked moments after I shot it comment," would apply as truly rare.

Maybe they ought to drop the "common power" wording in favor of Cloudy (mundane) or Cloudy (meh).

I think cloudy/common is good phrasing and simply recognizes a tradeeff. It is only the definition of common that can confuse; common is more than just an ES44, it is any engine in an environment that it can be seen frequently or daily.

It's poorly worded - would be better to say "images that can be obtained under sunny conditions."
