Default Rejected 8 Times

The stupid people at Railpictures.net rejected 8 of my photos. 3 of those photos were very good ones but they made the excuse of "It was overcast".

Don't knock him. He's got a pretty sweet railfanning forum where he carries on conversations with himself. You've got to give him credit for trying.

I was trying to figure out which of the shots on his site were one of the VERY GOOD ONES that stupid RP rejected.

If the shots on his site are the ones he sent in, I would say the screeners did their job this time.

The "stupid people" at railpictures have taken plenty of "overcast" photos from me and many others.

I could go on like this all day, and I venture that I have at least 100 cloudy-day photos here. "Overcast" is not the reason your photos were rejected.

Since we're "stupid," I have no qualms showing everyone the gems you're complaining about:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=549388953
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...d=550940&key=0
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=341087288
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...key=1050015470
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...d=550931&key=0
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=772397564
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=707817916
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=766180732

That's all 8 of them. I didn't screen any of them, but I wouldn't have accepted any either.

Are they as bad as some of the stuff we see submitted? Nope, definitely not. Most of them are pretty technically sound, but you need more work on a few things, especially composition and lighting.

Or we could just be stupid.

Beautiful works of art, each and every one. Really stand out against the norm, like a true artist!

I know! And I, personally, am sick and tired of all this "Light over your shoulder" crap.
Let's see something that portrays a dull and boring atmosphere! They really capture the 'moment', you know!

Matt, I believe we should start taking photos like railfancody here! He has opened up a whole new door in the photography world.

Lightbulb Dont give up.

If I went ape over 8 rejections I probably still wouldnt be here. I'd say I have had over 30 rejections since January 2008. Obviously the 16 I currently have in the db were the best of the 30. I would say only 3 of the 16 have got in as soon as i submitted them. All the rest usually requires more effort on my part, and most of the time its something fixable or something I have just over looked(exposure, cropping, contrast saturation etc). I cant even remember how many rejections I got back when I was 16. Clearly you cant be very old Cody, so instead of taking RP as just a bunch ''stupid'' people.Try shooting on sunny days and composing differently as like Chris K said appears to be your biggest problems, as is usually every new submitter to RP's main problem is. Hopefully this wont turn into another KcsRailfan incident.

I dont get many as i refer to ''mortal wound'' rejects anymore, mostly its something fixable, but sometimes I just stop because I feel its a waste of the screeners time as the reject below. Although I personally like the photo, I dont feel it in my own opinon to be RP material.

Yeah Ironically enough, its the only picture I have taken that looks good on my old desktop monitor. I guess if I had not cut off the rest of the locomotives, and showed more train, I would have probably kept trying to get it accepted.

Agreed. I've probably said this numerous times in the past, but nothing confuses people more than rejection reasons that don't necessarily apply, or perhaps there was probably a better choice to not accept a particular shot.

Personally (of course), I think the image quality is fine (I've seen worse here), but it's just not that great of an angle. It kind of reminds me of a scenic 3/4 wedge attempt that turned out to be a roster shot. And, as it has been said dozens and dozens of times before, roster shots of common power almost have to be perfect to get accepted. Plus, everyone pretty much knows what a GE looks like. I'm not saying anything new here.

RailfanCody, If you are still reading this thread, I submitted 2 pictures that got rejected about 2 months ago. I thought that they were good and so did a few other people I know, but the screeners said "no." It was rejected for "High Sun". I live in the desert and the sun is almost always high when I get to shoot. I have a video of that day and you can see the overcast skies. It did not make sense to me and I was upset. Instead of sucking my thumb and bad mouthing the screeners I have been on this site almost everyday reading the different post to get a better understanding of what they are looking for to better myself the next time I shoot. I have not had the opportunity to go out and chase any trains due to the heat, 110+ lately, and I have 2 little train chaser in training to contend with to. I will say this, sit back read the different post that are rejected, read the helpful input and the next time you go out reconsider your normal approach, and aim for what the other senior members suggest to the many other posters that have rejects, and shoot away.

Whenever I do go out next time, I am going to look at the area, set up and instead of trying to get as many shots as I can as the train passes, I am going to aim for that 1 great shot. Hopefully it will make it.

Just my 2 cents from the peanut gallery.

Well I took it from the seat of my truck, was just a random picture. I guess everyone knows what a GE looks like but here where I live we dont get many BNSF leaders. They were moving pretty fast so by the time I got to the crossing it was pretty much to late, I wont sit here and make excuses though about why I couldnt get a better angle. Too bad some of these new posters dont realize that everyone makes a mistake and that its not RP's fault thats why I posted one of my rejections here, for illustrative purposes.

I really hope the image quality is good my camera was $1,200.
