Size Rejection
This shot was rejected for size with the following description:
"In most cases, our prefered image aspect ratio is anywhere between 4:3 and 16:9 (1024x683-768, or 1200x800-900 pixels). Exceptions are made for images shot on older square-format film, or where the unusual aspect ratio has been applied for artistic/creative reasons."
I chose a 5x7 aspect ratio with the intent of including the full catenary tower between the second and third car and a significant amount of sky. Is the issue truly the aspect ratio, or is there really something else at play (e.g., composition)?

I submit 5:7 ratio shots all the time. 1024 x 731 pixels. Never had one bounced for that.
Just out of curiosity, was that shot with a Canon product? The sky just has a sort of "Canon" look to it.....meaning a coloring I've seen from lots of Canon contributors and something I don't see in the Nikons I use.

Maybe:
-Crop to just above the rightmost catenary tower.
-Desaturate the sky blue a notch.
-Darken the prominent I-beam where your name is.
I don't know if litter bothers the screeners, but I would certainly delete most of it.

Yes, it was shot with a Canon EOS 80D.

The train looks good, but the sky needs color adjustment and left side does very little to help the composition. This scene would appear worthy of a vertical crop if you want to keep the entire catenary in the shot, and have an earlier frame with the train.

It needs to be rotated .5% CW. FWIW, I like the crop. It might be on of those cases where you have to ask if it is worth trying to fit in the box RP wants it to fit into

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with one of the earlier shots from the sequence and using a tighter crop.

Unfortunately, it somehow uploaded twice and since it was reviewed within seconds, I couldn't delete the duplicate before getting a "double upload" rejection. So much for my second upload slot today...

I've submitted several photos over the past week or so to find that two are in the queue on the Member's page. Apparently this a glitch in the site. I recommend checking the queue as soon as you post.

I always check after I submit and bring up entry to make sure everything is correct.
If you mean photos sitting in que for a day at #1 neither accepted or reject I had that happen and suspected they were left for someone else to decide but could just be a glitch.

I did check back immediately, but the rejection happened while I was attempting to go back and delete it through the edit queued photo menu. The review happened within a minute of me uploading the shot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no quicker way to delete a submission.

What's going on with the halo around the sticker parking only sign?

Oops, I wasn't quite precise enough with my adjustment brush when trying to reduce the glare on that sign. Working on correcting it now.
Thanks, Jim!

Personally prefer the accepted shot but I wonder whether community response would have been any different if the first upload had been accepted. That's the question that needs asking. If RPN is really all for the viewers then it should. Perhaps a 1-day or 3-day provisional acceptance could be a way of testing the rejections that are appealed or deemed questionable in this forum.
