Originally shot as a vertical, After correcting some distortion this is what is left.

Any bettter way to crop as a vertical or would a horizontal work be more acceptable in the screener's eye?

There is an accepted one, further back before the shadows came in. Someone else had rejection here on forum. I tried two or so and were rejected, one more similar to yours and one further back like the accepted, just gave up, not worth the ....., so seemingly not and easy location.

A vertical with way more zoom (if that's possible) would work IMO, i.e. the building that says 'Nuveen' (spelling ?) would be at top left of the frame.

Too much of the building at left IMO. Something like this, perhaps?

That might work. I was digging the reflected skyline in the left building, but for RP maybe a crop like yours is the answer. Gonna try it

FYI. Four of my last seven accepted photos were shot with my iPhone and one of those was a TO24, though steam engines are like honey to a bee on RP. Crazy.

Guess I got lucky Bob. Quite the show at Ogilvie during rush hour. Metra up above and Metra below. I only got the chance to spend a few hours one afternoon. Would love to go back with a local guide to maximize my time spent. I did get a nice shot of the Beverly Shores station. Hopefully I can get it accepted.

How was the camping?

Your photo, I think more than luck, you have two trains, nice light, the shadows up front provide good contrast. The CTA and Metra looks easy there because there is constant traffic but with buildings and shadows it can take time to get the right setup. I have a nice vertical of Ogilvie from the CTA station but it took a while for the sun to swing around and train on the right track. Thanks for reminding me abut this location, think there could be some night shots there, just need to wait for shorter days.

The camping was great. The South Shore is a great way to get to Chicago. The Dunes was convenient to access the NS/Amtrak interchange in Porter. Heard whistles at all hours sitting around the campfire. Didn't even get to Blue Island or Dolton so I want to go back.
