#4 is close to being a winner, IMO. But you need to do a few things to it. Working from the original, it needs more sharpening. With the selective focus, the lettering on the sign needs to be tack sharp. The color on the CSX nose needs to pop out more too. I like the sign proclaiming it as NS track, but the nose is decidly CSX.

#2 is close as well, but needs cropping. I also think 2 and 4 are too similiar and thus chose the latter one.

Thanks Joe! I wasn't sure if they would accept something like that! Sweet! I'll have to definitely give it a try! Yeah the line is owned by NS but CSX comes by also.

Not to mention the train is parked ("stalled vehicle").

Lol it's not stalled. It's sitting in idle, cause it's cold of course. It loaded like the day before this was taken.

It doesn't look like you did any corrective work to the shot. In fact, without looking at the Flickr version again, it looks darker now than it did. It needs some wrok, sharpening, shadows/highlights, saturation...

I'd try to give it some work ahead of the wrok.

I can see you're still pushing for quick responses. Not sure how many times people have to tell you to calm down. Joe has covered your questions pretty good, so I won't add much, other than the fact that I highly suggest following the advice suggested by regular contributors, as their advice is generally spot-on.

I think what CSXRailfan is looking for is a how-to in Photoshop or whichever image editing software Joe used.

Simple process in Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0, but should work in whatever you have. I added some unsharp mask (you could simply sharpen it; I ent that route for a long time in post) then I played around wsith shadows and highlights until it lookd right to me. Then I added a little saturation to make the yellow pop out a little.

This is not certain to get this shot into the database. I liked it when I saw it and thought it could use a little work. Others are not commenting on the shot entirely leading me to think I may be in the minority.

Hello! Over here!

I like the shot and I think Joe's approach is a good one.

Exactly what rathman said...

Joe, thanks for the help. That's all I really needed was how you did it in Photoshop. Since you're one I see regularly I will say now I have Photoshop.

Chase. I already said my bad. I understand. That's just the way I am. Thanks.
