Because it's obviously too far to walk or ride a bike.

17, soon to be 18 but I don't act it :P
Here is a question, How many teenagers out there are able to take their vehicle railfanning? (assuming you have your license)
I do it frequently, paying for the gas. Come summer I will have new trails blazed through the bush to access cool area's. Hking is one of my hobbies, and it fits right in with railfanning.

Currently I have 17 years of age under my belt. I just recently began driving around railfanning, previously I biked all the way into town(a good mile or two), then up one of the worst hills known to man to get home(I usually ended up hoofing it). However, driving has not seriously helped me get shots into the database(2/3 of my shots were taken before I could drive), but oh well. Its way more enjoyable since now I can railfan in the winter.

I think I am the only Aussie here and I'm 21. Everytime I take a long walk on ballast I tell myself, "Mick, you really need to lose some weight!"

51 and happy to be The only way I would want to be younger is to retain all the hard earned lessons that I learned along the way.

I love it, 76 and a Junior Member!
Chuck, I posted a very similar poll a few months back, but got a lot fewer responses. Everyone must have been out shooting trains, but the results were about the same. The largest age group is 20-35 and the next largest is under 20. I'd guess the average age to be 25-28 years old. Very few of us senior citizens, but at least this time I'm not the oldest guy in the poll!
The large number of young fans both amazes me and encourages me. This hobby is not going to be going the way of the Dodo Bird!
