Took me a moment to realize what it was (before I read the caption). That's pretty cool. Any idea how he got the elevation? Helicopter? Cessna? Drone? Levitation?

The cut off turntable and the odd angle bother me a little.
Certainly unusual.

Jim, I am guessing he shot down from the CN tower.
EDIT: just looked it up, yes, that is the roundhouse below the tower.
Mining, I love the shot, the cutoff make it less representational and more abstract, to go along with what I see as a rather unique mix of snow and structure, cool tonality. Different tastes.

I'd love to see that shot because I have a couple from up there myself, however all I get when I click that link is an add for a flickr app. This happens on about 60 - 70% of flickr links I click on, which is why I hardly ever bother. For what its worth, here are mine (taken almost a year apart):

And another from up there, although not of the roundhouse:

Definitely!
Sampled more of Phil's Flickr stuff. Eye candy!
12+ fave-worthy IMO just in the first group. But not the roundhouse.

Do you have a Flickr account? Or do you disable cookies?
If I use Chrome (cookies blocked), I get the app promo.
Browsers with cookies enabled, no problem.

Thanks, I can see it now (after at least 30 seconds of fuzziness). No Flickr account, and not in the future either unless they do some serious upgrading.
Yes, it's different all right. Not sure what to think of it, it's uncomfortable to look at but that's obviously his intent. Normally I'd expect shots that elicit such a response to be making some sort of negative statement, like on war, poverty, starvation, etc. Not getting the statement on "roundhouse" here, but zeroing in on the top of the unit on the turntable does yell EMD (or in this case GMD) loud and clear, and in a positive manner! That part of the image I can relate to, I guess the rest is art!

Then again I don't get the message behind this one either, unless it's "look at me, I've got a wide-angle lens!!!

Since when does art have to be negative? Seriously, I think that is a pretty bad misconception, although I think common. To shift to another genre, "Ode to Joy" is not about war/poverty/starvation etc. Religion, and for that matter beauty, are also themes in art.
And, I'm not trained in art, no art historian or critic here, but one can also have art that just "is", especially in abstract work.
Aside from that, my personal view of some art is that the artist or the "serious" art world attach meanings to art that do not actually exist in the work. Almost as though there is some sort of club, and I'm not a member.

I in no way intended to imply that all art has to be negative. I guess I should have put the word "art" in quotation marks to communicate I was attempting to be ironic in this specific case. The reason for that is he has taken something I was familiar with (I used to live less than 20 miles from there) and set it on an angle that I have difficulty recognizing, about 45 degrees CW from what it looks like when looking straight down on it from the tower. Also the drab lack of tonality in this (almost purely) black and white rendition, while nicely emphasizing the graphic lines and geometric shapes of the composition, just doesn't work for me as a whole. You must remember J, I'm old-fashioned. I think of art as something nice to hang on a wall and admire. So if you're talking about the likes of Picasso or Warhol as "art" I don't relate. Some abstract stuff I do find enjoyable, but mostly it just seems pretentious to me. Like you said, "Different tastes"!
