It's just too tight at the bottom, I don't think the screener have any other issues. Call it comp or crop but loosen it up and I am sure it would be on. That is the meaningful difference between the two.

And HG, your example in the op is still a horrible example of the nothing has changed attitude of the screening team even though I agree with your premise.

Sure Jim's has some track in front and the crop is pulled back a bit, but essentially they are the same shot just reversed and a rainbow for a water element.

Well, that means I would have arrived 5 years ago. Then again, this high sun shot was 7 years ago:

Then there was that SC I had back in '09 where the loco had distracting shadows on the nose.

To be fair to the RP administration, I have noticed the recent inclusion of a few examples of non-sunny day 3/4 wedgie shots to the DB.

Examples have included sunny day roster shots of rear facing units, pictures of rail oddities such as joinder bars and front and back coupled cars shot at "non-standard" angles.

Bravo - Keep it coming.

However, it would also be nice to see such images coming from others besides the five or so HVC that are still posting here.

Railroading photography is not just limited to rolling stock and locomotives.

I went out railfanning for the first time in 2 months today, been going through old digital photos, taking a second look at some ones I may have overlooked.

I truly enjoyed your series of photos from Carrizo Gorge - and just about everything you post. Some for historical reference, some for photographic reference, but most I find photographically appealing.

It is disheartening that you've been persuaded by admin to reduce your contributions.

I say this while browsing FB trying to determine where to post a recent double-header picture of the new ACS-46's. Let's see, The Railroad Photography Page or The Real Railroad Photogrpaher's Page... or The Railroad Guild? Or maybe the Amtrak Page? Eastern Rail News page??

I miss the days of RP being the one stop spot for great photos. Not that I didn't browse elsewhere but it's become a full time job. I hope admin can get their act together in an effort to promote the site rather then disbanding it.

This is the time of year to get outside before it gets really hot.

If you get the same screener, in theory you won't get a killer rejection after getting a fixable one. This works out better in theory than in practice.

I do as well. I'm not throwing rotten tomatoes at them, but in my humble opinion, the process could use some refinement (and I've offered a few suggestions). I know many outstanding photographers who would never consider posting anything to RP.net. I know of others who have ceased, because they tired of the hassle. If their outstanding images are not on RP.net, we all lose. The trick is to find the best ways to refine the process without compromising the integrity of the site, or adversely affecting anyone who contributes images, either past or present. I know the site owners are not unaware of these points, and I believe they're looking for ways to improve that situation. We're all better if RP.net grows and thrives, and anything I can do to assist, I'll certainly do it.
