"Loose" composition

I think this shot is a great illustration of a big southwest sky dwarfing a train, making a train look small in nature. Plus I like the colors. Thoughts?

A pure matter of taste, and the screener didn't share yours. RP is a rule-of-thirds-centric place, and while it is possible to get shots like yours on, the odds are lower. Appeal if you care to, or display it elsewhere.

Seems a bit dark - initial impressions matter, and RP may find this too dark (even if it is accurate in exposure) and that can subconsciously trigger the screener to reject - remember they click on the first thing that comes to mind, not on every possibility.

The star of the show here are the sky colors, but I agree with Janusz that the price you're paying is a dark landscape. If your processing application allows it, increase exposure and contrast ever so slightly, then lighten the shadows.

Too much sky. Were the train at 33% on the vertical plane you might have had something - BUT (big BUT) the train and ground are also too dark.

Good thoughts guys, appreciate the options.
I'm using LightRoom for my primary edits, when in crop mode, the lower third line slices the train.
I'm working another frame with the train further towards the left (possibly too far) and the semi is out of the frame.
Also cropped wider (16:9) to try to reduce so much sky...

Fingers crossed.


I wish I could play with that location again, but work brought me there only once. thinking I needed the 200mm instead

That's funny Jim, I was rejected for unlevel when the pole on the right was parallel to the side of the image... then I leveled to the center catenary and they took it...
I agree though, it makes me seasick when I look at it. but who am I to argue.

The rejected one looks level and the accepted one looks unlevel. I agree that you should level based on the caternary, not the bridge. See if you can do a "better versionversion" swap.
