I do see it. I also see no way around it. Not exactly a populous shot here either so that may be why it got a pass. It's still there in Downtown Deer Lodge if anyone wants to take a stab at it. There's a cute little signal and realistic catenary up by it now too. Maybe a drone from 250' agl is the ticket..

I would not even dare to think submitting such a "daube" (French word). But even if I would submit a similar picture with a European electric engine behind the fence, it would certainly be rejected (and that would be fully justified). Pro-US bias? Not at all, I swear it!

Unfortunately there's quite a few choo choo shooters who are quite content to produce "daube" and proclaim it as "le meilleur".

Actually, I was rather hoping the Jean-Marc would translate, but feel free, Loyd, to take a stab at it, for this Merlin sh*tkicker with sub-par edumacation. The GoogleMachine wasn't much help, as it translates the French "daube" to the English "stew".

Google daube french slang - "daube. (slang) crap; crappiness."

Just an observation, and that's all it is.....
The photographers (including the one most recently cited) who are often used as examples of favoritism toward US contributors all appear to have some other things in common. Most of them have been contributing "forever" here, they have been responsible for millions of views on this site......and we never see them complaining about their rejections here.
Just sayin'.....

Crap or garbage along with stew. Now I'm hungry, and I won't say which of those three that made me that way.

Back to the Little Joe, one to document the display, fine with that, very popular subject.
I like my Joe's at Deer Lodge little dusty.

There's a 66% chance that we don't want to know.

Hi Kevin,
My recent comment on the foreground clutter makes absolutely no reference to favoritism towards American contributors. I deeply respect the photographer cited in this specific case, as I respect all the other photographers who contribute to this site. My comment would have been exactly the same if the photo had been taken in a country other than the US. I do not complain about my rejections either, but I just wanted to point out how the selection criterias on the part of screeners concerning the foreground clutter are very variable and inconsistent.
Kind regards,
Daniel

I agree regarding the reason, but due to the distance from the train, it is hardly noticeable and does not detract from the photo. FWIW, I had a "newsworthy" photo rejected for the same reason two weeks ago:

The tree couldn't be seen until I processed the photo. I just said screw it and posted it on Flickr.

The scorched earth policy railroads used to have concerning their ROWs is sorely missed.

A big thank you for everyone's comments and advice, always very useful. Rejigged a slightly different frame and the shot was accepted. One can never stop learning.
