Couple of rejects (incl. Tunnel shot)

Gday all

Just wondering about these couple of rejects, is there anything I can do to them to get them into the database??

The first is a tunnel shot, I tried uploading a front on photo, but it was continually rejected for being too dark until it got to the point of being too noisy, then was rejected for poor composition. Therefore, I tried uploading this one:

However, it too is getting rejected for being too dark.. Should I try to lighten it up some more again, and hope for the best?

The other one is an evening tram shot, just after sunset:

I wanted to try and get the red light throughout the sky, I think it adds that little bit extra to the photo, but it has been rejected for Poor Lighting (Backlit). Once again, anything I can do with it, or should I just keep it in the personal collection??

In both shots the bright lights pull your eye away from the train. On the tunnel shot, the eye keeps fighting the lights. The white squiggly on the nose of the train in the tunnel doesn't help. The cab light needs to be on to balance the dark train and bright lights. A crew member would help too.

The red passenger train itself has fabulous texture! Looks like a high price car ad. Tomorrow start selling yourself to BMW or Audi! Wow!

However, here too the bright background pulls the eye away from the subject thus the rejection. (I think) The bright building and the pole do not help.

Different, darker background, say no building, some light on the front, but same light on the train, you'd have a winner!

I hope someday to get light like that myself.

The first pic is almost head-on, yet there is little light on the nose ... personal collection. The lighting quality is really nice, appeal this one, another screener may like it.

Thanks for the replies fella's, it looks like tunnel shots are more for the personal collection!

I will try the late afternoon tram shot again to see what I can do, fingers crossed I might get it into the database..

That light was fantastic in Le Mans, Pete! Looks almost like an artists impression to me.

... hopefully it will be accepted. I had to adjust the exposure slightly because the image was over exposed.

Ok, rejected for too much noise/grain the second time around. All I did was slightly alter the exposure!

Forget the tunnel shots lets see that sunset one get in! Did you appeal?!

Interesting, thanks for sharing so we can see the comparison. Sorry, though, but I like Pete's a lot more - the colors are richer.

Just goes to show how minor differences in position with respect to the light can affect things.

I'd say either appeal or reduce overall saturation by a touch and resubmit.
