Christmas Loot
Who's got new loot in their camera bags now that we're a few days past Christmas? I finally have the lens hood for my 70-200 f/4 L (wasn't included when I bought it used) and a fancy new Canon 430EX speedlite.
I also got some funding for registration and lodging at the CRPA conference this April. Who wants to carpool?

I got a 1TB Seagate FreeAgent Extreme Hard Drive, and $100 of cash that I'll put towards Photoshop CS4 or a new computer.

Looks like the sort of intentional-hand-shaking shot that people do when they want to justify the massive expenditure of $$$ to themselves.
Congrats!

Only thing I got for the camera bag was a Nikon 70-300VR lens, my 18-135 has not seen a train since I have had the new lens. I got a lot of other stuff, and a GPS that I so desperately needed.

No sister... MILF maybe?
On another note... Santa wasn't too generous with me this year... tho I did treat myself to a new HD video camera this fall... I guess that can count.

I haven't gotten anything for years and years... after getting married I came to realize what my dad had always said was true... "Don't get me anything... I can't afford it."

As an aside... I am going to get myself something... in the next couple months.
deciding between upgrading on the still side to a 40D
and upgrading on the video side to a VIXIA HF10
(Nikon guys... don't give me any grief... I'm a Canon guy)
only getting one in 2009... the HF10 will be more usefull overall as I can do a lot more family stuff (I'm not a big video railfan... but with that camera I might become one).
but every time I come close to pushing the button on it I stop and think... what are you doing???? that means no new DSLR for something like 18 months...
I honestly don't know what to do.

That is a tough one. In just about every instance I would say it is easy, the DSLR does tremendous stuff and you might as well upgrade the video because you will continue to get great shots. I am almost surely keeping my 20d for the next 18 months, without regret.
But I went and checked and you have the original dRebel. It drove me crazy with that awfully slow buffer (hence the 20d!). So I cannot help you, but I feel your pain.

Nothing in the camera bag but plenty on the memory card.
This year for Christmas i got a trip to Folkston, which for me was much better than more equipment.

Well, the bag is one of the new things I have now, lol. In that new bag is new glass finally, to replace the very soft, very slow, and loud Quantaray 55-200mm lens, I have new glass. Thanks to the comments on other threads and recommendations no buying glass over a body, I purchased a 55-250mm canon IS USM lens. I just uploaded a shot, basic shot but it was a test shot, straight out of camera. It's almost too sharp. I think I still have the "in camera" sharpness levels up because the old Quantaray wouldn't cut it. Take a look.
Ben
