Is it just me?....

I have had two of my shots whacked already for being blurry. Everything looks nice and sharp to me (except the snow...it was falling fast most of the day)

Anyways, its either these screeners are playing games with me, or i have bad eyesight. And last time I checked, I didn't have bad eyesight. First one is of two Amtrak's meeting. I tried to do something different for this: http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=885513360

I think the first is indeed blurry, at least undersharp, but the other, is more of an image quality issue.

What are you guys seeing? On the CP it looks like all it needs is some sharpening.

The Amtrak, it is hard to tell what is going on. The ground on the right seems to have interspersed defined and smooth areas, not sure what that is. There is one numberboard, is there a huge snowflake in front of the other? The visible number looks sharp to me. It doesn't look so bad, overall, given the snow.

No, the snow has blown over the top of the unit and collected on the number board from when it was trailing. You can see the right number board on 90200 in my shot starting to get covered:




Anyway, I think he needs to sharpen the nose of 90221 just a tad.

Did your flash fire or something? I've never seen snowflakes stand out quite that much before, and it really detracts from the photo compared to the more subtler snowflakes that typically get on RP.

Yeah, it is a weird effect. There's no depth to the falling snow at all (almost like what you see on TV when they have fake snow falling directly in front of the camera, and not the background), nor are there any snowflakes illuminated by the headlights of the trains. Snowfall plug-in for photoshop?

I see that now. (I don't see the blurry, but that is minor by comparison.) In the CP shot the flakes in the sky have a particularly strong glow, with a bit of yellow, they would normally disappear against that light sky.

I agree, J. I've shot a LOT in snowy conditions and I've never seen it show up like this in a shot. Something is fishy here.

Alright, well I'll admit that the snow is fake.... I added it so it would get a cloudy/common reject. I heard that if snow isnt falling, it wont get in unless its sunny or good power. It looks nice and white on my monitor though (so somethings wrong with either my eyesight or my monitor...and its not my eyesight!) So, I guess I will have to use better looking fake snow or something....

While I am at it, is there only 1 location to shoot trains in Sturtevant, Wisconsin? Like 90% of the shots are of this exact same location/angle/vantage point.

Thats how I noticed. I was preparing a joke about how Daniel would be mad that Sean stole the only place to shoot trains there, and I was like wait a minute.... lol

You dont need to add fake show, you just need an SD60, Warbonnet or airplane fuselage
