For the colour, I'll admit that I'm having trouble seeing it. Saturation issues again? It was taken in late afternoon.

For the cropping, a little off the right? I'm reluctant to crop off the bottom, so as to avoid cutting into the railing post, despite part of my shadow being there. Cutting the post out completely would also mean cutting off the train.

For the cropping, the subject feels too squished into the upper left. The bottom really doesn't add much, especially with your shadow being there.

For the color, the overall image looks like it has a green'ish or cyan'ish tint to it.

I'm not sure what's wrong with your camera, Jacques, but your photos all have those weird, washed-out, tinted colors.

For cropping, I'd take some off the bottom and right.

Two things other than the color:

(1) Why didn't you shoot over the fence in front of you to get that out of the picture? and,

(2) Why does the fence in front of you not extend all the way to the left to where the other fence is?

(3) Ok three - and the color is off.

(1) I think he wanted to use it as a lead-in line

(2) It would have worked better as a lead-in line if they fence continued. Odd that there is a gap.

Jacques, what film do you normally use? I have a feeling that the washing-out would be more to do with that than your camera itself.. or your scans.

Tom - I don't suspect it's the film, as it's the same Fuji print film I've been using for years. My lenses all seem to have their own minor colour characteristics, but nothing that significant. I suspect that a major component of the problem here would be the fact that I'm trying to process the photos on an uncalibrated laptop screen, to confirm this, it would help to know when people started to notice the washing out.

A number of the scans I got back in this batch had some pretty wild colours as well (that weren't present in the prints,) and I suspect that may be playing a part.

I've attached a copy of the unmodified scan (save for resizing and a little sharpening.) What do you guys see? I'll withhold my impression for now, just to see if it correlates. I've also attached the photo from the original post, which'll expire soon.





(Upon comparison of the two, it seems to me I may have gone a little overboard with desaturating the green and yellow channels on the grass...)

Oh, and as for the railing - behind me, there is a footpath that parallels the canal, and I'm standing just beyond the point where it curves away from the water toward a nearby industrial-building-turned-condo-complex.

The second photo is the reject from the initial post in this thread, I just reposted it since my seven days are up by now. I was looking to see what people saw in the original, unmodified scan (the first photo; with respect to colour, contrast, etc) to see if it correlates with what I see in it on my laptop monitor. I didn't make my inquiry very clear, sorry about that!

The other question I had (directed to those who are somewhat familiar with my work, of course) is when the washing-out of the colours started - is it confined to this photo, or has it been recurring for a while?

The cropping seems like an unavoidable issue, but I would like some more insight on the colour. How does it look here, and does it look better than my previous attempt?
