What's the secret to get a going away shot accepted?

Well, lets use my recent shot for example cause it's a going away shot. Generally, the shot has to be done in an "artistic" form. My intentions for the shot was not just show the train but emphasis on the backlighting while showing the surrounding landscape, along with the track alignment the train is on. If you look at other shots on here, most of the time, it has to do with the lighting and composition of the photo.

Got some elevation but it's not "going away" enough to qualify IMO.

Going away composition isn't ideal, or interesting to be honest (for your latest rejection).

If you don't get the best possible shot, so it goes and try again. No need to push a lackluster version because that's what you came home with.

I agree. However, 95%of train movements on the Conemaugh are eastbound.

I am not a Trainorders.com subscriber. Would that improve my odds of catching a westbound enough to justify the subscription cost?

For my tastes the limbs have too strong a presence. I have a shot like this myself that is HD only for that reason (well, that and the post-fall lack of color).

That's a lot of trains heading east. How do they get back to the west in order to come east again?

Jim, the Conemaugh is a low grade alternative to Pittsburgh Line. Downgrade westbounders use the mainline.

Not comparing this photo to John Crisanti's, but somewhat following his advice I took following recent photo. Rather than creative, I look at the concept for me as having more in the photo than a engine going away. I used the first shot in the sequence to maximize the amount of the street and include only the cab part rather than having a long hood as the prominent part of the photo.

Yea kinda similar but a little tighter view on the latter.

Pushers are a rarity and I've only seen them on coal drags to Shelocta. The Lehigh Valley unit came down from the plant to Freeport to assist this train. Maybe one of the lead units was having issues. It was a lucky catch for sure.

I do like the shot but it raises the question:

"Why do some sodium-lighted shots get approved, while others get the Bad Color rejection?"

Think if you want to redo then a vertical with the full bridge. Every photo is visual editing?? but cropping the top of bridge to make it look like something else??
