Do you think if I play with some sliders on Photoshop elements I can get this accepted or should I switch to a black and white?

Depends on the mood you want- I did several variations. This one has more contrast and shadow recovery.

Nice shot. It's kind of funny how it works when you fix what the screener says is wrong. Don't try to overanalyze rejections like that.
