Default Great photos with no views?

Have you ever had a photo accepted that is on your best list but ended up flopping in the views category?

I have. The problem I think these have, is that these photos don't look good as thumbnails but look a lot better enlarged compared to most of my photos that look good as thumbnails.

I think there is already a thread in the off-topic forum regarding this. I think...

I don't really care about the view count, but I would have expected this to do a little bit better (it has less views than some of my shots of electric multiple units).

In the case of this one, I have two shots from this same spot in the database of two different locomotives - one is my second most viewed shot, this one is below average. I personally prefer the other one though!

What is considered good by one person, can also be considered bad by another. Thus the RP.net rejection list...

Not going to say every picture posted in this forum is bad, in fact, I find this picture to be quite good in my opinion. But, the others, at least to me, don't grab my attention.

On my profile, yah, its the same old same old. BNSF, UP, Metra, EJ&E, Amtrak, over and over and over again with the occasional exception. But, when a picture is really good, and has things that jump out at you, you are going to get mroe views.

That is my favorite picture I have on the site (I'm to lazy to update my public "personal " profile, but even that has some problems. It was origionally rejected for being to dark, then poor esthetic quality. I appealed that and it got in. What most problem see as the problem with that one is the wire ontop of the screen. It's actually quite distracting. In my opinion of course.

This photo has 1,635 views, but I would have expected quite a few more being the first photos of QR 4100 Class Locomotives. Whenever there's a new EMD or GE Locomotive in the USA, the photo gets thousands of clicks almost instantly!

... and this photo of a brand new QR Citytrain 160 IMU on dawn. It has got quite a number of views offline because the photo is January in Australian Railway Historical Society 2008 Calendar, but could have done better online.

Population of the US, 300 million, population of Australia, 20 million.

Come on, Michael, this has more views than any of my shots but three!

This one I thought would do better. Thing is, it's the one's that you don't think will be popular that actually become popular. My CN DPU shots got alot of views, and I can never figure out why.

That's very true about the population. I did not even think of it.

As for the views, I have 'whored' my photos around quite a bit; Railpage Australia, QRIG, LocoShed, SkyScraperCity and RailRoad Forums. That has done quite a bit of boosting. There's nothing wrong with doing a bit of self promotion - it gives me examples for my marketing/advertising assignments.

Much interest down your way in the CSX Metropolitan Subdivision in Maryland, USA?

Of course there is! :P

On a more serious note, I would not go seeking such photos, but if I found one in my travels that caught my attention, I'd click to see a larger version.

I have searched many times for photos of the new GEVOs and the Acela and am currently sussing out decent locations for my trip to the USA.

There aren't too many of mine that I am surprised by. I went through mine, and for the most part, the ones at the bottom are there for a reason. Either they are my older stuff from when I first started posting here or they just aren't anything really exciting, and I look back now and think "Why did I even send this in in the first place?".If I had to pick one I am surpirsed didn't get more views, it would be this one:

PhotoID: 209876

I think the problem here was that there was so much stuff sent in from this trip, that alot of shots from this trip got "lost in the shuffle". Not just my shot, but many shots from other photographers.

Yup, thats why mine haven't seen the light of day yet, but it may be time to dig some out.

Yea, I think you'd be safe posting some now. And me being such a fan of these units would love to see what you got. And since I didn't see you too much on the way up to Scranton, I be interested to see whaere you shot from.

Yes, me too -- once some time has gone by, and I have had a chance to reflect, and detach a bit!

Here is one that didn't do badly, but actually I thought it would do really, really well. It is a slide scan, probably the best slide scan I will ever have in terms of color. The colors are vivid. I think the subject material is just flat out interesting (and it doesn't exist anymore, that yard is just a storage yard for coal trains now). It's a decent composition, not an artistic one, purely representational, but good balance and off the beaten track a bit.

That's a pretty clean scan there, and the view count isn't too bad either since it is about 200 views over the average according to the photo stats page. Either way, it's a nice shot.
