Default Canon 1000D - Who Are You Trying To Kid?

They're calling it a "more affordable" entry-point to the world of DSLRs. I was kind of happy, figuring it'd be maybe $400-$500 or so for the kit, allowing more people here to pick up DSLRs. Despite the horrible specs in comparison with the Rebel XSi (being hailed as the best Rebel yet and argued as performing better than even the 40D), it is actually MORE expensive than the XSi! 599, which equates to $928.56. The XSi, supposedly a more "high-end" camera, is all of $899 (both figures per DPReview). Don't get me wrong, I know the 1000D is "newer", but how the hell can you charge virtually the same (actually, a little bit more) for less camera? Unless there's an error with the price, this just makes absolutely no sense...

It's a list price, which bears little relation to reality.

Why there is such a tradition of ridiculously high list prices in electronics, I have wondered but I have no idea. Anyway, wait until it comes out; the price will be well below the XSi/450d.

That's weird...really. it's still looking better than the D40, though.

To make you think your getting a deal! , and if there is a loss in shipping they can claim more? maybe good for you if you have a loss to?
I add what Nikon is the camera to compete with? and will it?

I read it was going to list $200 below the XSi (about what the XTi is going for):

Already out, Nikon D40, 6mp, $479 with kit lens at BH.

I have felt for some time that Canon needed a low-end offering; it seemed for a while that they were simply leaving some of their prior models out for a while. Right now BH has the Canon XT (2 generations old) for $449 with kit lens.
