The nose of the locomotive is dead center in both shots. Don't center your subjects. Also, lots of ground in your second shot for my tastes.

Wesley,

The first one's from one of my favorite spots along the Joint Line...nice to see it getting some action! I think by cutting off the red building on the left, you take away its ability to act as a frame for the shot. I'd try and get as much elevation as you could by standing on the shrubby hill just off the trail behind you and use the red building on the left and the curve of the trailing cars on the right as a frame for the subject/power ala:

As for the second shot, it might be because the train is dead center in the image when looking top to bottom...
