Pee Dee River Power on the Aberdeen & Rockfish
It's been reported that Pee Dee River Railway CF7 #2486 is at the Aberdeen & Rockfish shops. (The A&R owns the PDRR.) Not sure if this is a power move for the new plant near Raeford that got the A&R to lease two SW1500s or if they're just working on it there.

Will be interesting to see. I honestly thought it would make more sense to pull it and/or a GP16 off of the PDRR instead of leasing those two SW1500s. The only thing that will really make sense for those units is if they use them on the switching and short run of th Fayetteville local from the River Terminal in order to free up a road unit for use on the soon to be heavier road trains.

More GATX at the A&R
Another GATX MP15 arrived at Aberdeen for the A&R one day last week. As usual, CSX dumped it with the ACWR setout. Aberdeen has been so plugged lately that the locomotive has yet to be delivered to the A&R. The unit wears the same paint as the other two that have already been delivered. And if I recall correctly, it's the GATX 102.

Just saw a more recent shot, with the long hood mostly primered. However, it has been outside through a few afternoon rainstorms and is already rusting over the primer. Looks like it will be a work in progress for some time at this point. It will be interesting to see what scheme it comes out wearing. It seems like PDRR has enough space at their shop to do paint work, but they also may not have the equipment and/or manpower that Aberdeen does.

Rick Tufts is saying on the Carolina Rails YG that the PDRR CF7 is going into the A&R scheme. That will be a sight to see when she's on the road. I'm way overdue for a trip to the Hamlet/Aberdeen/Laurinburg area.

Warren Callway just sent an e-mail to the Carolina Rails YahooGroup saying the CF7 is now in full A&R paint and lettering. I'm guessing Patrick Treadaway gets the first RP shot of it.

Wow. A&R must really be in need of power.

They now have five locomotives on roster and are leasing two or three GMTX SW1500s. I need to make the drive up US 1.

I don't know the group settings, so let's see if this works. Warren Calloway sent the A&R YahooGroup two photos that Ed Lewis sent him of te unit --

Interesting spotting features on 2486-- note the horn is mounted backwards, and the headlight upside down. Paint sure does look nice, though!
