Default A Little Bit of a Head Scratcher

Well, uh... It's a heritage unit, so it should get on automatically, right?

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...08&key=7706790

I can see the contrast issue - easy fix. But the composition... I know it's a little awkward, but it's the best you can do. Cover up any more of the station, and it's pointless to even have the shot. I can take some off the top and right, but that's more cropping than composition. Any help?

We have seen recently that a "bad composition" got on after a little cropping. Give it a go and see what happens (if you are OK with that).

The lead unit is just too centered...

Take some off of the right and top and it should be fine.

I agree with Jake. To me the contrast is fine, as is, for a cloudy, misty day, but RP likes them juiced, so give it a boost and a trim and I think it'll be fine. I like it.

Maybe it's the old, crappy monitor I'm on now since my lap top died, but that engine is not as gray in real life as it looks to me in that shot. As for cropping, I'd crop on all sides. Some needs to go on the left, too, and I didn't see that mentioned.

It's not that remarkable of an image to me Wyatt. I don't think the MGA unit trumps a cloudy day in this scenario.

I wasn't going for remarkable. I was going for a good shot at an identifiable location.

As for cropping off the left, no thanks. Not cutting the station off. It got a cloudy/common rejection now - I forgot that heritage units are common power now since all the chaos at Spencer. Oh well, it's on Flickr!

Meh, like a said, the MGA Unit doesn't trump this cloudy day, just be glad you got off your butt and shot it.

I was going to do a location shot but as crappy as it was out I decided to go for something different and am glad I didn't go with the normal old Pettisville grain shot. Mine is on flickr as well.

If it was a cloudy day, going over to the other side of the tracks wouldn't have hurt too much to include the station a little bit more would've it?

I wanted to do something different from the shots on RP at this location, as well as what my friend was doing on the other side. I'm happy with the result, and like I said, it's on Flickr.

Believe me, I would've accepted it, I'm just talking RP purposes. Lol

I'd take some off the bottom and make the dark clouds more prominent.

Also, try again on the pole....

I understand your reasoning, but the station isn't that remarkable and not cropping some of it off puts the train right in the center of the frame. Since it was cloudy, it might have worked better on the opposite side of the tracks or at least further down the tracks from where you are standing.

I think it's more the cloudy part than the common. With the engine being grey against all that gray sky, it doesn't really pop out at you like maybe the 8114 would have.

Aside from a boost in contrast, I hold no issues with a cloudy day photo like this.

I'm biased though, as my portfolio on here has more night and cloudy photos then pretty sunlight ones..

Yeah - the "pole removal" takes it from a cloudy day shot that is outside of typical rp.net material to a major no-no for the site.

FWIW - here's how to get a Delta station shot on a cloudy day with an interesting train on rp.net:
