Two versions both hit for bad cropping...

The original frame is wider than either of these, but you really start to get lots of empty track and empty sky.

I would crop off the right to just the other side of the signal bridge, then take a sliver off the left, top and bottom

You may think it's a little funny, but I actually break up my thirds into where the sky is one third, the train in the second third, or middle of the photo, and the bottom third is the ground or foreground. To me it looks better that way or at least put the subject a little lower if that doesn't work.

Even if you get the cropping to their satisfaction, don't you think they will just hit it for Poor Lighting - like when they use the "High Sun" reason for direct-on-the-nose lighting? Wouldn't be the first time...

Possible with another screener of course - it's borderline (it's high-sun on the flank but the subject is the nose and the shadow gives some drama).

I can't imagine the screener who rejected it three times already for cropping, however, is waiting for me to get the cropping right in order to then swoop in with a high sun rejection. That seems a bit calculating and illogical, to be honest.

I only see two ways in, Charles

1) Go panoramic and chop away at the bottom. Sometimes they accept such a crop.

2) Crop tight, get the track car (or what ever it is) and the set of dismals. You loose the signals, but you have a better composition. To get it in as is, you'd likely need something in the foreground (towards the right) to merit it's inclusion. Or, add more sky had it been filled with puffy clouds or a well timed (and likely out of place) low flying aircraft or helicopter.

Y'know.. short of it being a derailment, anyway.
