The Merger of U.S. Airways and Norfolk Southern
Announcing the Merger of U.S. Airways and Norfolk Southern.
 | PhotoID: 469854 Photograph © Norfolk Southern Corp |
Dateline Friday:
It was announced today that U.S. Airways and Norfolk Southern Railroad are engaged in a merger that will result in the largest air/rail logistics company in the country.
When contacted for comment, an unidentified NS spokesperson rebuffed questions pertaining to the merger and was alleged to reply regarding the above referenced photo; "what, it is just a choo choo train and one of those airliner things, I don't think people should look for any hidden meaning in the photo."
Additionally, when queried about the impending merger, U.S. Airlines President Barkley B. Cooltimes, stated that on the advice of counsel, he could not comment on the alleged merger since negotiations were on going, and because his was on vacation this week.
By the noon hour Eastern Time, shares of both U.S. Airways and Norfolk Southern had risen significantly on the New York Stock Exchange fueling speculation that the merger had already moved through the initial phases, despite the lack of a tacit announcement by either company substantiating such a fact.
We at Rail Pictures dot Com will keep you, the wedgie viewing, mouth breathing public, abreast of this developing story as the information becomes available.
In the meantime, please feel free to browse through our extensive data base of pretty pictures of Norfolk Southern choo choo trains and be sure to visit our sister site - Air Plane Pictures and Stuff that Flys dot Com.

The Southland railroad in 1987 completely closed it's doors, shut down the railroad and moved to 100% air freight. How did it work out for them?

At one time NS was a major shareholder in Piedmont Airlines and was going to try and buy the airline outright but US Air's bid was higher resulting in close to a 500 million dollar sale for NS. Was told that by a retired US Air pilot I play golf with. I didn't remember it.

That last Pan Am livery with PAN AM spelled out in large font on the fuselage I thought was pretty gaudy, especially on the widebodies... thankfully it didnt last long.
I was always a fan of Eastern airlines, especially their white paint on the L-1011's and early 727's before they started not painting them and leaving them silver

Kind of ironic, because the original Piedmont never flew Airbus airplanes. Putting this heritage livery on one of US Airways shorter 737s would have been much more appropriate.
I recall flying Piedmont 737-200s and Fokker F-28s quite a lot on business travel back in the 80s....back when airline travel was actually something you looked forward to. My company had facilities in Virgina and North Carolina, so we used them quite a bit. I recall them being one of my all-time favorite airlines.
Not a fan of Airbus equipment. Boeing makes pilot's airplanes. Airbus builds video games. I've always loved the saying: "If it's not Boeing, I'm not going....."

People actually pay attention to graphics on a jet? I mean, you sit inside it, why would you care what it looks like on the outside?

There's at least one former US Airways A319 that's in AA paint flying under US' certificate.

Every transcript I've read has it as 'peep delta', which is slang for 'to look at', and would fit the ebonic style theme.
Still, glad some people got it. A classic

You could very well be right. It came out in the 90's before cell phones, and pagers, aka "beepers" were popular at the time, especially among the demographic the parody element was trying to poke fun at, so that's why I always thought it was "Beep".

Peep means to look at something.
