Top and right, perhaps?

No, do NOT crop off the right. That puts the subject hard against the edge of the frame. I would get rid of the negative space. Crop off everything from about an "inch" left of the signal. Crop off about 3/4 of the black on the bottom, maybe crop off about a fourth of the sky.

Sounds about right - mostly too "tall" for RP (top heavy) but the extra black is doing you no favors - in fact, I'd expect that to be the next rejection as the train melds into the ground - typically a no go for RP (and my own personal tastes).

Looks like you were correct, Mitch:

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions, though, I think I like this crop a little better.

I think it still has possibilities if one were to crop more, top and left.

I really like where you're going with this but I agree that there's too much dark space to the left. Dare I say on May 4th that you have given in to the Dark Side? Have you thought about cropping this to a vertical shot? It may get ride of the wasted space to the left while still preserving that beautiful sky.

Jacques, I love the sky, but find the darkness at the bottom overpowering. Is there any way you could brighten it just enough to allow some detail to show without it getting all noisy?

Thanks, guys - I'll crop top and left and give it a go later on. I'm a bit reluctant to cut off too much from the left, though, since that's where I feel the most interesting part of the sky is. Wayne, unfortunately, I can't pull the shadows up - maybe I'll try trimming the bottom a bit more.

Remember that this is RP, which is about trains. So absolutely love the sky on the left, but including that space may be what keeps it off this one site. Nothing wrong with that ...
