Default PEQ Guidance

Trying to understand why this is a PEQ

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...53&key=6206650

when this is not a PEQ (saw this photo after my first PEQ)

Seeing Andrew's pictrure I would see "similar to..." but then again, there are a lot of photos in the database of stationary subjects that essentially are the same shot.

I'm sure some folk will respond, "why, it's already in there?" I'm more curious about what the difference is that makes it a PEQ.

Because he was a screener and screened his own shot?

I don't particularly care for either shot if you want my opinion.

To his credit, in his shot, the station is less obstructed by pesky foliage, and the shadow on the right is less prominent (he probably used shadows and highlights tool).

Obstructing objects or distracting shadows and I probably wouldn't have aksed here. Would have said, "Okay, doesn't bother me, but I get it."

PEQ leaves me confused.

Nice shot of an obstructed side of a station. Would have helped a lot to have the tree not obstruct the first row of windows above the midline. It's a tree shot, PEQ.

I'll second that - with one side nearly completely obscured, it's just not as appealing. It IS a tree shot.

You could try lightening the shot up, however - it's certainly darker.

Perhaps it needs some fastners.

But seriously, your predicament can be summed up using a similar analogy, that being what I ask myself on many a Friday night at Fullerton (you wouldn't know because only the good guys are allowed there on Fridays) but does humanity really need yet another video of the BARWAT posted on YouTube?

Think about it.

Does that help?

I hear everyone on the tree. Shot is only really possible during winter or spring before the leaves.

To be honest, had obstructed view been the pass reason, I wouldn't have questioned it (and now I totally understand/see it).

I think it was the PEQ that really threw me.

To Troy, BARWAT is the M-BARWAT, BNSF Barstow to Watson hauler - (On duty about 1500. Runs Barstow to Watson via the Alameda Corridor. Leaves Barstow mid-afternoon, gets into Watson before midnight. Often seen at Fullerton between 1900 and 2200. Cars with "BORX" Borax are a dead give-a-away. Also have Styrene tanks and a number of Propane tanks of non-odorized petroleum gas, plus a few big BNSF refer units.)

Yes, that is the BARWAT or the reverse being the WATBAR and on rare occations you can see them meet at Fullerton.

It will also have a cryotank with Argon and a few old Santa Fe Hoppers loaded with Pet Coke.

Like the BARLAC (Barstow to LA) it is a very noticable train that you can spot based on the cars.

Further, it will have other interesting loads such a new Metrolink cars from Korea and large motors and transformers for power plants and oil field applications.

Negative - BNSF runs through Fullerton, but you are supposed to know that.

I am not familiar with Deshler, but with regard to being on the bucket list of railfans world wide, you could compare it to Folkston or the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona.

Hey, I had a 50/50 chance... being I don't live on that coast, I think I did ok...

I think if I spouted out a "Q441", it would get as many deer in headlights stares on the West coast as BORAT or whatever the symbol was here on the East Coast

Maybe - but I would know it was a symbol.

More like Fostoria probably. Then again, I've only run into a few full blown foamers in Fostoria.

When the day comes that I'm allowed to go back to Ohio, I hope I run in to Ellen at Fostoria so I can give her a hard time. I've heard she's quite the nutcase foamer.
